BLOUINARTINFO review #EVIDENCE
Casemore Kirkeby, San Francisco presents ‘#EVIDENCE’ by Anouk Kruithof through April 8, 2017.
The exhibition showcases new works by Dutch artist Anouk Kruithof (b. 1981, Dordrecht, the Netherlands) that ranges from photography, sculpture, installation and more. Her photography blends cell phone photos, screen shots off of the Internet and conventional photographs that help create meaning in her image-making tools. Kruithof’s unorthodox source materials delineate a post-internet society. ‘#EVIDENCE’ is an attempt to explore conceptual photography, inspired by Larry Sultan’s and Mike Mandel’s path-breaking book of the same title. By using a similar conceptual framework, Kruithof makes her work less stable and transparent as she mashes up, alters, erases and combines hundreds of these screenshots. This dystopic series boldly envisions the collapse of structures that dictate how and when to look and with what intention.
The exhibition is on view at Casemore Kirkeby, San Francisco, 1275 Minnesota St #102, San Francisco, CA 94107, USA.
